Texas Generational Equity's efforts to accommodate the just savings rationale with the difference principle underscores the inbuilt tension between intergenerational equity and intragenerational equity. Evidently, a norm of intergenerational equity must provide significant counsel on the balancing of bowed consumption of wealth against current economic consumption of wealth. The tension there is obvious: Resources that are consumed now can't as well be saved for the future, and resources that are allow for the future cannot also be consumed presently. But that also implies a central tension between intergenerational equity and intragenerational equity. When current generations save or differently shift wealth to future generations, the current generations enhance the well-being of future generations. At the same time, however, current generations limit their own ability to contribute to the well-being of their own members, including those who are least easy.
